Choirs Change with COVID-19.

New Orleans is famous for many things; everything from their football team– The Saints, the Mardi Gras Parade, southern cuisine, and the music mix of jazz and blues. They are also known for their unique choirs and church performances. I was in New Orleans when I was 15 and was lucky enough to witness a Sunday praise service and it was nothing short of impressive. There is incredible soul in the music and passion in the way the choir members sing. Now this was all before Covid-19 was roaring its ugly head all around the globe; so what about currently.

Once church in New Orleans took a wonderful entrepreneurial approach in the way they preformed to the general public. Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church is famous for their wonderful choir and their performance in the Christmas season. Their 60-75 member singing group has put on shows for many years and  is often a sight to be seen and heard with their wonderful voices and dancing. However, with the pandemic problems that have occurred within the past year, the choir had to find a new way to preform and worship the Lord.

The choir had been practicing since September hoping for the chance to preform like they do every year, but this year they made a change to fit the current situation. The church choir decided to record themselves singing in various locations across the city providing them with a cleaver solution and a different background to their traditional stage.  This ended up being a success as they were able to post the end product on their website and Facebook page.

This was a wonderful way to use an entrepreneurial mindset to solve a problem facing the choir’s current situation and still have a positive effect on the community around themselves. They sang songs that many knew like ‘Joy to the World’ and ‘Silent Night’. This was a wonderful way to effectively adjust with the times.
