With Hartman’s new e-commerce idea launched and out in the public, she has come across some surprising realizations. While she received a lot of positive feedback from her fellow Christian friends, they did not buy her clothes. They do not normally wear clothes that have verses on them. They were positive about the idea but not interested. She does not understand the reason why they are not buying her clothes, but she suspects it has something to do with how open their faith would be if they were to wear one. In other words, they have a fear of judgment.
Hartman sees this fear is fueled by the concern of relationships with the views of non-Christians and they value that friendship more than their faith. She thought the goal of her business would allow the conversion of the gospel to come up easier, but instead, she is challenged with the view of unspoken view of blunt Christians. How do we change the way people view Christianity when it is already believed by the mindset of God believers.
Another challenge that she has confronted would be the target of men/teenage boys. Her twin brother had informed her that he has a hard time being convinced to wear the shirts on a regular standard time. She is faced with not only the Christian market not wanting to openly wear their faith, but half of it does not even feel compelled to wear it for it’s not manly, macho, or funny.
Hartman has come to face the idea of a way to contextualize her product with the message.
