Discipleship, mentoring, guiding. The most perfect human being who ever lived did it. If Jesus did it, so should we. This is a great biblical model for us to follow, as well as good business application for it. Mentorship is taking someone under your wing in order to help them grow into the best version of themselves they could be. Often times, this is done in order to accomplish a goal that an otherwise inexperienced person could not do. Jesus took a rag tag team of ordinary men and turned them into bold defenders of faith.

The Bible says in Proverbs 15:22 “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established.” Even with a multitude of councilors, it is important to have good ones for plans to go right. In the business world, companies that make advisory boards who are full of yes men and individuals who are too closely tied with other members on that board invite trouble. Different ethical concerns arise out of such complications, but it also fails to do what a board was designed for—to make great decisions for the good of the company.

As we have seen there are two different ways of looking at mentorship, both the micro and the macro. The micro focuses on the individual and the macro focuses on the importance of a governing body directing an organization. I think it is really cool what RIOT is doing with their mentorship program. RIOT aims to mentor kids who have lost a parental figure in their life. Every young person has the potential to make a huge impact on the world. We who have the good news of the Gospel ought to share the good news with everyone. The Bible has given us indispensable wisdom that should be shared. Unfortunately, not many know that the Bible is still relevant, relevant to individuals, and relevant to the world at large. It is my hope that the fusion of entrepreneurship and the church will carry the Gospel further than it ever has before.
