“Beginner’s Pluck” – It’s Worth the Read

“Beginner’s Pluck” – It’s Worth the Read

I embarrassingly admit that I read maybe four or five books each year (aside from for school), but “Beginner’s Pluck” was a quick, four-hour plane ride read that I thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend for anybody looking to make an impact, find a purpose, or enjoy a humorous read.

Liz Forkin Bohannon, the author, is the founder of Sseko Designs, an “ethical fashion brand that works to educate and empower women.” What began as a plane ticket to Uganda and absolutely no plan of action, Liz took the most unexpected route to discovering her passion of social change for women. Liz’s personal sandal creations in college became the inspiration for how she was going to accomplish this social change for women, but her success did not come without some blood, sweat, and many many tears. Liz shares her lessons learned throughout her journey genuinely, applicably, and humorously. Once finished, her readers, or ‘pluckies’ as she calls them, can’t possibly put her book down without feeling a sense of divine purpose that only through trial, error, fail, and try again will be revealed to you piece by piece.

Liz now speaks internationally about her powerful business platform and her practical advice for any ‘pluckies’ trying to make an impact in this world. She’s continued to run Sseko Designs alongside her husband, Ben, who has so faithfully supported her dreams through it all. She spends her days living half the time in Uganda and the other half in Portland, Oregon.

If you’ve mindlessly read the above up until now, that’s okay. The gist of this post is this – you won’t regret reading “Beginner’s Pluck.”

  1. Really enjoy hearing about someone taking what they are gifted in and making a business of it. I believe that God is a strong proponent for justice, this redemptive principle is really cool to hear it lived out in Bohannon’s writing and life!

  2. I’ve wanted to read this book, but didn’t know if it was worth it! I’m so pumped to hear that it is! I’m a big fan of Sseko Designs and have always been inspired by their story! This is definitely added to my reading list!!
