As I have been reflecting on the past year of my time here at Grove City, I have recognized a theme in learning about how to engage with the culture. It can be so difficult for many families to have conversations about cultural issues and we can often take very rigid views on topics without fully immersing ourselves in the facts and all the variables. AXIS is a non-profit venture that aims to provide resources for families that help them to engage in important cultural issues. AXIS’ mission is to build lifelong faith by helping parents and caring adults talk with their kids about what they otherwise wouldn’t, one conversation at a time.

The family structure is so important, and a lot of church youth ministries understand this. Deuteronomy 6 goes into detail about the importance of impressing the faith in God and obedience of him to children. AXIS is living out that call and facilitating that process so that families can grow closer to each other and be a model of Christ to other families within and outside of the church. The 6 types of resources that AXIS has for parents and families are a “cultural translator,” 7-minute videos, Parent guides, Podcasts, Conversation kits, and “Axis courses.” AXIS has a clear vision of where it wants to go and is looking to achieve this ambitiously. I am fully on board with what AXIS is doing because my parents weren’t always the most open to having important conversations about cultural issues. When my family did talk they were often fairly closeminded on various discussion topics, as a result I realize that I can be similar. As a church, we need to learn to approach issues from a place of humility and discernment. AXIS seems to embody this very well.
