Business as a Mission in Sports

Over the past 6 years of my life, I have been blessed to be a part of a ministry/ business program called the Charlotte Eagles. The mission of the eagles is, “We are a Gospel-centered ministry that introduces people to Jesus Christ, teaches them to follow Him, and empowers them as leaders through the global environment of soccer.” Through this non-profit, I have been able to serve, travel, lead, and play the sport I love. The Charlotte eagles is under a larger organization called MAI (Missionary Athletes International). Through this, locations in Charlotte, Chicago, Orlando, and Phoenix have all been established and work for the common goal of building the kingdom through Soccer. This relates to Mission of the Church because we see in 1 Peter 4:11, “Whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” In all things, it is to him be the glory and dominion forever. Through the Charlotte Eagles, I have been able to see this mission fulfilled through the beautiful game of soccer.

Over the last year, my time with the eagles has come to a halt, but the lessons I have learned are many. Through my time there, I saw the importance of constantly looking for new opportunities to spread the gospel. For example, about 3 years into the Eagles existence, an opportunity revealed itself through the game of Volleyball in another state. Without hesitation, the eagles decided to add a branch in Southern California. From this story, I admired how the eagles were flexible to move away from the norm and divert to a new strategy which has brought more and more people to Christ.

Hey Jordan, great blog post! As a former athlete myself, I think it is really cool that you were able to play on a team that is so deeply rooted in faith. Sports is a great way to spread the Gospel. I wish all of America was able to find teams like this.

Jordan, this is great. As someone who also has gotten to share the Gospel through a game we deeply love, I can really connect to this. Dr. Daniel Strange discusses a great way to share the Gospel is to “Connect and Confront”. Soccer can be a great way to connect with someone and provide the opportunity to share the Gospel. Well Done!
