Many of us have heard about incredible 3D built homes for families who make less than two-hundred dollars a month. What is almost more amazing is the partnership that was created for this idea to become a reality. This incredible feat was the partnership of two redemptive-minded
businesses coming together to create something beautiful. The first business, the business with the idea for 3D printed homes, is Icon. A for-profit business that focuses on revolutionizing home-building. The second business is a nonprofit called New Story who seeks to end global homelessness. The two businesses saw value in each other but had no desire to enter the opposite sector. Icon’s original target market was the upper class and New Story sought to help the impoverished. Eventually, the businesses realized that they could help each other. New Story needed a financially stable way to build durable homes and Icon needed to completely test their product and find the best way to build their homes for any environment.
Now, the two companies are creating the first 3D printed community to house four-hundred individuals and allow these people to start towards a better, more stable life. In addition to joining forces to end global homelessness, these companies are also targeting specific families whose main source of income comes from brick-making. Brick-making is often called “modern-day slavery” because of the extremely long hours and low pay. These families are given the opportunity to help design their dream home and Icon and New Story are making this possible.
Hey Jael, this is a very interesting article and story here. I think that this company is going to help out a lot of at risk families but future more they are showing the love of Christ to these individuals who need to see the Holy Spirt move.
Ahhhh the video we watched about this hit me hard haha. It was so inspiring and just eye opening to all the amazing things that people are doing in the world that we don’t even know about. The two people that created this have a great heart and are truly trying to “stop global homelessness,” which is amazing.
I’m impressed with the technology created to make stuff like this happen. This industry will likely boom mainly because there are so many third world countries with extremely poor housing. The key to helping these third world people is to give them a platform to work off of. As soon as they have something, anything, they might catch a break and focus on education and health.
When John Hart first mentioned this and showed us this video, I low key told everyone I talked to the rest of the day about it and that they should go see it in chapel. I think this is so cool, it also helps people recognize that it doesn’t matter what major you are, you can make an impact wherever God has called you!
