Met By Love

An example that comes to mind of a highly effective ministry is Met By Love (MBL), specifically the one on campus of Grove. It is known across campus that MBL is a very cool experience, as it is a unique and impactful ministry. The bulk of it consists of worship, but there is also a lot of time spent in prayer, and also with time in scripture, along with someone giving a sermon as well between the worship. They also offer “Intercession” the hour before the main gathering happens (weekly on Mondays), and then a weekly “Evang” gathering on Fridays. They are a very consistent presence on campus; They are consistent with their meeting times every week, and consistently delivering compelling experiences that are connecting people to God. I started attending MBL my freshman year, and it genuinely changed my perspective on God. I understood that God is always present, but up til that point, I had yet to ever truly feel God’s presence, or that I actually had a true relationship with Him. They also frequently stress how God is not in fact an experience, that He is always present even in the moments that you aren’t feeling as “on fire” as you may feel in that room. The way they set up the room MBL happens in adds to the experience greatly. They have minimal lighting, with typically 4-5 people singing, playing guitar and cajon, with a single lamp standing in the center. They create a very non performative, intimate experience for everyone involved. It is also all college students running the worship and sermon, which makes it all the more easy for college students to connect with and relate to. My personal experience, along with many other people I have talked to about it, can testify to MBL being a unique ministry that provides a new and consistent experience for students that can be lifechanging.
