Altar’d State

I personally am a huge fan of Altar’d State, which is a women’s clothing brand. It is known for having cute and unique clothing/accessories that typically stand out. What I have noticed on my own first, and then through actually researching it deeper for this post, I that they are a company who strives to exemplify running a great business for a greater purpose. They are public about being a faith-based company, and so they do feature various Christian themed clothing and jewelry. This is wonderful in itself, but they additionally make sure that their business is holding to Christian values. On their website, they talk about how their primary mission is “Stand Out. Gor Good.”. As I mentioned, their products are known to be a unique style, featuring many colors and patterns and materials. But their business itself also stands out for holding these serving for the good principles. While their products do sell well, they want to make it clear that they are more than just what they are selling. A direct quote from the “about us” section of their site is “[The founders’] goal was to create a brand with an unparalleled shopping experience tethered to giving back. Their faith-based approach and desire to alter the retail industry led to the name Altar’d State”. They are quite public about this, which is cool because it serves as a form of accountability for the company and those involved, to preserve their morals and integrity. They are also big on connecting with the community. They have partnered with 5000+ nonprofits, locally and globally. A big part of this is their Misson Monday initiative, where every Monday, 10% of net proceeds go directly to nonprofits. Each store is able to choose a nonprofit from their community (based on a seasonal theme, such as education) to donate the 10% to. I love this so much because it is as if each store they have is getting to tithe, in a way. They also encourage their associates and employees to be involved with the nonprofits they are donating to, and so they give each employee 4 hours of paid volunteer time each month. Altar’d State is so impressive to me, because they are not over the top or pushy about things, but it is clear to customers that they are different, and make it clear where they stand and follow through on their set principles.
