The Salvation Army: Why It’s So Great

The Salvation Army: Why It’s So Great

I remeber going to the salvation army ever since I was a young lad. My aunt worked there, and I loved going there to buy a cart full of cloths for a few bucks. It wasn’t recently until I realized how great of an organization this is. All the way from how they run their business to what their missions are. These facts made me enjoy going to the store more than ever before.

The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 by William Booth, in London, England. The Salvation Army established a corps in Columbia, SC, in 1906 and has been serving people living in extreme poverty in the Midlands for more than 100 years. The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in his name without discrimination. For those of you who don’t know about this company they receive used items and sell them in stores. The are a non-profit organization, and contribute to peoples needs in many ways.

They donate and help with disaster relieve, homeless shelters, food pantries, grassroots service, LGBTQ community, and many others. Now I know what your thinking so don’t worry about the LGBTQ part; in their description they have that they will not discriminate when helping people with basic needs like food and shelter. They are not helping the community with the progression of gay rights or the gay rights movement, they are just stating that they will help them in times of need.

The products that the Salvation Army gets is free to them. Weather they are getting the cloths, shoes, furniture, etc. from individual people or other organizations, its absolutely free. There’s not too many companies out there that can say that it cost close to nothing to getting their products on the shelfs. Of course they have to pay people to get the products on the shelfs and people to clean everything but other than that its pretty cheap. This makes there cloths super cheap which helps people with a lower income to potentially get nice cloths. The Salvation Army only takes 18% of what they make from each sale for administrative purposes, everything else goes to the missions I discussed above.

Now I hope you can see what I realized about the Salvation Army recently, if not feel free to read again. Also the prices are great for what you can get, if your don’t believe me take it from the rapper Macklemore, “I’m gonna pop some tags, Only got twenty dollars in my pocket, I-I-I’m hunting, looking for a come-up, This is f***ing awesome.” See it all makes sense now, I know. For a quick pro tip for when shopping at the Salvation Army or any other thrift shop always go to the richer part of town because they have nicer cloths to pick from.
