Many have heard the historical stories of Jesus and his disciples. However, who would have thought that a television show about it would become the largest crowdfunded media project in history? When I think of creativity and doing something new, this is one of the greatest redemptive examples that comes to mind. “The Chosen” is a publicly funded television show that displays the life of Christ, his relationship with his disciples, and his impact on those around him. This show depicts stories that we have read throughout our lives and puts them on a screen for us to visualize. The show has been seen by over 108 million people and is being translated into 600 languages. The effort was made to create a historically accurate and biblical representation in a medium that is more watchable than a book.
However, “The Chosen” is not only creating a TV show and accepting donations for its production. To fund this massive undertaking, they also sell merchandise, which is a significant source of revenue. Recently, they had their largest source of revenue yet by deciding to do a multiple-episode launch in the box office, which earned them $14.4 million. As a single episode can cost upwards of $1.2 million, this series is a major undertaking. But it has changed the way many people read the Bible, as they can now see the characters and imagine what it was like. The series has just finished its third season and has plans for more, all made possible by their creative funding ideas, including donations, merchandise, and bringing Biblical history to the box office. We can clearly see the bond here between business and a Christian mission for furthering the kingdom and having an impact on the world.
I have yet to watch this but have been intrigued by all that I hear. They certainly have a unique take on their production. It sounds super cool. I love how they are trying to keep God at the center. I know this has touched a lot of people’s hearts, and I think it’s a great opportunity to bear witness to unbelievers. I wanna check it out when I’m not swamped with exams lol.
The chosen is such a good series and I recommend it to so many believers. It really does show the bible in a way that sticks to the truths of the bible. They don’t try to push one denomination’s agenda, which I appreciate and strictly make it about the lives of those who followed Jesus. The way it is crowdfunded, and they have testimonies after the episodes is also really cool to me. Portraying the bible as a show is very culturally relevant and is making an impact on our world.
