This week Grove City College is hosting many summer camps that strive to spread the Gospel to kids, families, and churches. One camp that comes to mind for me is Summer’s Best Two Weeks. This camp comes to mind because of my personal connection to it. I grew up spending at least two weeks of my summer in the mountains of Hollsopple PA with friends, counselors, and most importantly with Christ. After my years as a camper ended, I spend two summers serving Summer’s Best Two Weeks in different positions. Through being an employee in different roles, I have been able to see how SB2W has had to adapt to the changes in culture, technology, and business.
My time at Summer’s Best Two Weeks during the summer of 2022 I served as their photography and videographer. Along with this role came the responsibility of managing their social media pages. This gave me insight on how they have had to change the way they market to parents to keep kids coming to camp. When I was a camper, there was not a social media page for SB2W, over the years they have grown to three instagram pages to keep parents engaged with camp while their kinds are away and during the of season to keep camp in the back of families minds.
During my summer at camp in 2021, I served as a counselor. While the job doesn’t appear to have changed much since my time as a camper, the culture has. Summer’s Best Two Weeks now has the responsibility to train counselors to handle these changes. Counselors are faced with campers struggling with mental health, sexuality, and their faith. The leadership of SB2W now prepares counselors to handle these things through conversations with the counselors and gives them resources to help lead kids to the truth in these difficult areas.
Summer’s Best Two Weeks has been around leading kids to Christ since 1966. By the grace of God, and through innovation they will be able to continue doing this for many years to come.
I have heard so many good things about Summer’s Best Two Weeks. So many lives have been changed at the camp, the counselors and the campers. They have done a great job of innovating and bringing people to Christ. Many of my friends that were not strong in their faith that attended there had left having their life changed because of the work they are doing at Summer’s Best Two Weeks.
This is such an awesome post! I think SB2W is such an amazing camp and I really wish that I could have been a counselor this summer there. It is also really awesome that they are using innovation to adapt to the changing culture. I just hope that they are changing how God’s love is shown through grace and forgiveness, and not changing the Gospel.
