Agape International Missions (AIM) is an organization that fights human trafficking in Cambodia. They are located in the heart of Cambodia’s “red light” district with the mission of rescuing, healing, empowering, and protecting women and children who have been trapped in sex slavery. With the amount of enslaved people being greater today than ever before in history, (even though it is now illegal in every country around the globe), AIM’s work is extremely important.
AIM’s approach is unique compared to other organizations fighting human trafficking because of their focus on empowerment, their utilization of business, and most importantly their commitment to redemptive impact. AIM consists of an independent SWAT team that allows for quick response time and safe rescue missions, a restoration home where their staff social workers help survivors recover from trauma, a school for young survivors and children in their community that provides empowerment and trafficking-prevention in the form of education, and a for-profit employment center where survivors who have gone through the restoration process, as well as others in the community, can learn a skill, earn a good wage, and receive good benefits making AIM merchandise and custom apparel. Through every aspect of their operations and the care of these young women and children, their first priority is to share God’s love with them. Many of the survivors that come to AIM feel broken and dirty from the horrific things they have experienced. They often learn to see themselves through the eyes of those who have abused them, so there is a great need them to understand that they are beautiful and valuable in God’s eyes and that He offers freedom from their past. AIM’s services do not only provide freedom from earthly bondage, but also from the bondage of sin. They recognize that the freedom that comes through Jesus Christ and His salvation is far more valuable than freedom from earthly slavery, so they strive in everything they do to share God’s truth with them.
The reality of slavery/human trafficking in the world today is alarming. Thankfully, AIM is one of many organizations taking a stand against this evil, and doing so with creativity and a desire to further the Kingdom of God.
