Salvation Army

Salvation Army

Salvation army is an international organization based on Christian values. Salvation army’s mission is to serve men, women and children that are in need without discrimination. They want to serve humbly as the bible teaches us and spread love through donations and resources to those in need. The main way that salvation army has expanded their brand is through thrift stores. There are about 8,000 salvation army locations around the world. The way these store run is through generous donation. People donate their unwanted clothing, accessories, or miscellaneous items and salvation army cleans and resells them at a lower price. These stores allow lower-income families to buy clothing and resources that would otherwise be too expensive. In recent years, thrifting has become a trend among younger generations and many shop at thrift stores regardless of their financial situation. I believe that salvation army still has a redemptive impact even on the people coming to the store for a fun time with friends. You can shop at salvation army for whatever reason you want, but you will hear worship music playing in the background as you shop, and you will hopefully be greeted by smiling, welcoming workers. Salvation army shares it’s redemptive mission through the way the stores run and not just the mission itself (Which is a great mission). Salvation army has many different branches and products but they all work together for the unified goal of serving those in need and in turn, serving the Lord through humility. Salvation army states that their ministry is motivated by God and they’re ultimate goal is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ through meeting human needs without discrimination. I have personally visited quite a few salvation army’s and it is always interesting to see peoples reactions to the music playing in the background or to find another fellow Christian singing along with you.

  1. Yes! My family volunteers every year in honor of my grandmother. It is such a great way to get in touch with your community, especially around Christmas. I think Salvation Army is one of the few large Christian charities left that most people will openly support, and it all goes back to the change they make in the lives around them!

  2. I love that the Salvation Army is very clear about its redemptive purpose, and also allows its customers to get a taste of that with their volunteer opportunities. I love that worship music is always on when I go to the Salvation Army, it is such a refreshing experience compared to the music at other stores. It is very apparent that this company has a heart for God and also helping people in need.

  3. Yes! I thought you had a very well thought through post. You are right, I think that the salvation army has done a great job of carrying out a “kingdom impact” despite thrifting becoming so popular to people regardless of their financial state. I believe that by continuing to carry out their redemptive goal, they have spread awareness, and brought more people to recognize the importance of thrift stores and donating to them.
I have never noticed the Christian music playing in the stores, I will pay more attention if I go! You are right, the workers always have a smiling face and are always very personable and kind. This company has gone above and beyond to serve God’s people, through providing reasonable priced clothing and materials to people and carrying out a “kingdom impact”.

  4. I have shopped at salvation army before and also I have donated some clothes and different household items to their stores. I have also volunteered with my church before to help organize their store and clean their store because the store was lacking employees and volunteers to be able to do the basic upkeeping tasks of the store.
