Sackcloth and Ashes

Bob Dalton, founder of Sackcloth and Ashes, was inspired to help the homeless population when his mother found herself living on the streets in 2013. After this, he wanted to find out what most homeless people need most. The answer to this: blankets. From thus, Dalton wanted to start a company where he could make blankets, yet give to the homeless in this process. With this, he decided to donate a blanket to a homeless shelter for each blanket purchase. These blankets are produced in Italy and made from recycled materials, while being produced in a water free, dye free and chemical free environment. With this, you can see that Sackcloth and Ashes cares about the comfort and durability of these blankets that are not only going to customers, but to homeless shelters as well!

Sackcloth and Ashes’s mission is to “Blanket to the United States. Our goal is to donate one million blankets to homeless shelters by our 10 year anniversary, June 1st, 2024.” This company donates to over 500 homeless shelters in the United States! Sackcloth and Ashes cares a lot about learning solutions about helping the homeless community and finds ways to contribute beyong blankets!

  1. I love that he is redemptive in multiple ways. This is a for-profit business that is redemptive. This is redemptive by giving blankets to homeless shelters, and also is using recycled and enviromentally friendly material to make the blankets.

  2. Very cool business with a great origin story. This is yet another great business that follows the “Buy one give one” structure. This whole business is a great example of redemptive entrepreneurship, especially with its focus on a need or “pain” that was found, and creating a solution for it.

  3. I love how Bob’s mother inspired him to start this company. It’s awesome that he learned what their need is and honed in on finding a solution for it. His approach is redemptive in more ways than one because the blankets are for the homeless and they are made out of recycled materials.

  4. That is an awesome company! I have never heard of Sackcloth And Ashes before but I love the idea of selling a tangible and high quality product while also donating the same quality blankets to people that desperately need them! It is super cool that his mom was the inspiration for this and it shows that God uses everything for His glory!
