Sseko founded by Liz Bohannon “is a socially conscious lifestyle brand.” https://ssekodesigns.com/
This business started out of a desire to bring economic opportunity to skilled women in Uganda so that they could afford to go to school. After a few years it became “the largest footwear exporter in East Africa and [grew] the number of scholarships [they could] provide”. https://ssekodesigns.com/
They continued to grow and continued to bring opportunity to women all over the world. There mission is to support women who cannot find good paying jobs so that they can use their skills, bring value to the world, and help them get an education. Sseko’s website says, “For every $100,000 in sales, our community creates THREE dignified, fair-wage jobs and supports a female scholar in Uganda or Ethiopia to continue onto University and pursue her dreams.” This business is impactful, redemptive, and growing. Now they sell not only shoes, but handbags, clothes, coffee, and more. Their growth potential is exciting and the amount of people they can continue to bless is outstanding. I love this mission of providing sustainable jobs, providing a way to get an education, and creating beauty for the world in the process. Sseko Designs is a wonderful business and is inspiring to all young entrepreneurs.
This company knows what its mission is and how to accomplish it. They have a clear vision for how they want to redeem Uganda and they are even growing in their outreach. Fashion is a growing industry, and they found a way to use that and connect it to the needs of women who are less fortunate than the company’s customers. I like the connection; it really makes people think when they purchase a product.
