There are numerous companies out there that demonstrate redemptive entrepreneurship and there are many food chains and well-known stores that participate in it. Hobby Lobby is a more well-known outlet that has greatly demonstrated what it’s like to have a well-run Christian business. They are a home decor company that facilitates the Christian lifestyle. They have about 900 stores and they employ over 43,000 employees around the world. David and Barbara Green, the core owners and startups, took out a $600 loan in 1970 to begin making miniature picture frames for their home. They began to build on their idea and about two years later, they had a 300-square-foot store in Oklahoma City. In addition, on their page, it also states, “Corporate headquarters include over 10 million square feet of manufacturing, distribution, and an office complex in Oklahoma City. Mardel Christian and Education Supply, an affiliate company, offers books, Bibles, gifts, church and education supplies as well as homeschooling curriculum. Hobby Lobby also maintains offices in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Yiwu, China.” They have had their influence traveling around the globe and have made a major impact.

Furthermore, Hobby Lobby has been able to spread its wealth in donations and multiple ministry-driven projects. One Hope, Every Home For Christ, Oral Roberts University, Museum of the Bible, and YouVersion are the few companies and nonprofits that Hobby Lobby has continued to contribute to. In addition, they have also decided to “gives 10 percent in-store discounts to churches, schools, and national charitable organizations made with an organizational check or credit card.”

Their mission has made them a standout in the business world. Having a strong Christian business and Christian presence is what makes redemptive entrepreneurship work. Their ability to treat others with kindness and spread the gospel to their customers just fulfills the calling of Christ. They have His message plastered all over their website and in-store products indicating their faith and allowing their clientele to have access to it. In doing so, they have reached many people and I’m sure have changed some of their lives in the process.

  • I had no idea that Hobby Lobby was a business built on Christian principles! It is rare to see stores that are so popular sharing the gospel. Being the popular store they are, it is awesome that they have the ability to donate to some truly great groups that have made such a difference!
