A campaign that is very relevant and is having a very big impact on our culture right now, is the He Gets Us campaign. Most recently, the He Gets Us campaign aired 2 commercials worth $20 million, that aired during this year’s Super Bowl. This campaign was started by The Servant Christian Foundation, a nonprofit supported by a Christian donor-advised fund called The Signatry. Although this campaign began a year ago, He Gets Us has received a lot of news recently because of their Super Bowl commercials. With the recent news about He Gets Us and the overall mission of their campaign, comes a direct relation to what we just talked about in class about contextualization. The overall mission of He Gets Us, is “to reintroduce people to the Jesus of the Bible and His confounding love and forgiveness.” He Gets Us says that they “believe His words, example, and life have relevance in our lives today and offer hope for a better future.” He Gets Us does not have any political opinion or any connection to a certain denomination, but the campaign was started by followers of Christ who believe Jesus is the Son of God, who conquered sin and death on the cross, and who is alive today.
I became aware of the He Gets Us campaign throughout the last year because of their commercials and it was really cool to see their commercials air during the Super Bowl, one of the most-viewed television events of the year. It also was important to hear of their campaign’s story and mission. Especially since we just talked about contextualization in class, He Gets Us is doing just that, right in the middle of our highly secular culture. Most importantly, I really just appreciate that this is not a campaign for profit, neither to support a political or denominational side. He Gets Us is simply bridging the gap of our culture, by meeting people where they are, sharing the gospel in a contextualized way through biblical truth, in hopes that people will want to know more about the life of Jesus and hopefully about the gracious gift that is an everlasting relationship with Christ.
