If you have been to a summer youth camp or a concert for a big-name Christian artist, chances are you have heard of Compassion. They are a humanitarian aid organization whose mission is to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name. This movement started when Rev. Everett Swanson went to South Korea to minister to American troops in 1952. When he saw the orphans in the streets, he knew he had to do something to help these children discover their God-given value and potential.
This has grown into what is now known as Compassion. Their primary ministry is to find willing donors to be sponsors for children who are subject to poverty and the dangers that come with it. When someone sponsors a child for $38 per month,
amazing things happen: In addition to receiving education, supplements, health care, Christ-centered guidance from a local church, and recreational activities, a child receives hope as they experience a demonstration of the love of God through sponsorship and personal communication from a fellow child of God across the world. A sponsorship truly transforms a child’s life.
Compassion partners with thousands of churches in 25 countries around the world. In addition to child sponsorship, they provide aid in these areas: moms and babies, medical assistance, life-saving surgery, disaster relief, youth development, sanitary water, health and nutrition, Children infected by HIV and malaria, health and parenting skills, educational needs, livestock, income generation, construction, and more.
Compassion continues to run strong on resources provided by churches and donors who love their vision. They are a prime example of what it looks like to prayerfully think outside the box to show God’s love to children all over the world.

This truly is an awesome missions organization that gives these kids a great chance to not only learn hear about Jesus and the gospel but also get themselves off of the streets and create a lasting future for themselves.
Compassion is awesome! I think our family supports 4 kids from compassion! To know that all it takes in some situation is $38 a month for someone to have the access to education and the gospel really makes me question some of my other subscriptions like Netflix and Hulu…
What an incredible story and legacy Rev. Evertte Swanson created and left for the world.
