A House on Beekman is a nonprofit enterprise that seeks to join God in “the renewal of the Southern Bronx”. Sara Miller, the founder of A House on Beekman, saw how privileged she was and how much she “watered down” the gospel and sought to be as Christ-like as possible. She considered where Jesus would live if he had come today. She looked to one of the most seemingly broken societies. Sara Miller moved here with no real plans, except that she wanted to fully love a group of people who were labeled outcast. The true beauty of the community was eventually seen and Miller began to be loved despite being completely different than her neighbors.
A House on Beekman is located on a dead-end street, both ways. This allows for an amazing community to grow and flourish. This amazing nonprofit is trying to change the cycles that the Southern Bronx is so accustomed to. Sara Miller and her crew seek to take their neighborhood from “birth to career” to allow the next generation to reach their full potential in their community. A House on Beekman now has many amazing programs that continually seek to serve others and redeem a truly broken neighborhood.
This is a cool and inspiring story. Not everyone can humble themselves enough to do what they are doing. This idea will obviously leave lasting impressions on kids to last their entire lives. The best way to evangelize is by creating genuine long lasting relationships.
