Sunday Breakfast Mission

Sunday Breakfast Mission

Sunday Breakfast Mission is a homeless shelter in Wilmington, Delaware that provides the local homeless population with food and housing. The mission started out as a a shelter in 1894 and has branched out to now offer medical services, women’s ministries, as well as Sunday school for children. The non-profit organization balances the spiritual and physical needs of attendees by offering discipleship ministries and mentoring.  I appreciate how the group prioritizes follow up and care for even those who have moved on and no longer stay at the facility. They make sure that people are able to rebuild their lives and become productive citizens again. Serving a vital need opens the door to introduce the gospel to an underserved demographic.

  1. All in all, this sounds like a valuable organization. I especially think that it is valuable that they actually seek to follow up on attendees after they have left the service. It is often the case that when people like this get help and start to do better, that when they leave they often fall back into the same bad situations, whether it be because of their own choices or because they are just not able to improve their situation alone.

  2. I find it very interesting that this organization, Sunday Breakfast Mission, found a way to combine the idea of fixing homelessness and providing physical services, but also spiritual services. At times, people think of separating the worlds problems and religion, but what better than finding a way to combine a faith minded organization that helps end homelessness and provide spiritual encouragement along with it. Another final aspect that I find very interesting about this organization is that you ultimately branched out to Sunday School and helping kids. I find that so cool and awesome that they were thinking bigger. Great article and topic!
