The Restful Entrepreneur

The Restful Entrepreneur

We all want to be entrepreneurs who make a business, are super successful, and are able to help a lot of people. And this requires work. A lot of work. And it should. Starting a business is not easy and it takes a lot of dedication. However because it is so time consuming and because it requires so much dedication and persistence, it is easy to turn business and entrepreneurship into something that is self-fulfilling and something that you use to solidify your place in the world as Andy Crouch, and this is not what God calls us to do. God created the Sabbath so that we could rest, and to help us from getting lost in the shuffle of work. It is mean to be, as Andy Crouch words it, a ‘circuit breaker’. It is supposed to be a day where we can relax, reset, and rely on God to provide what we need for that day and drop any anxieties that we have and trust him. It is a day to show that we are in fact dependent of God and need him in our lives and in our business for strength, guidance, wisdom, patience, etc. We can not be successful at either without him, and any success that we have made up until this point is all because of Him. So lets make it a priority to take the Sabbath, not only for our own sake of being able to just have fun for a day, but also so that we don’t become self fulfilling and think that we can do everything on our own and don’t need to be dependent on anyone. We need God for our social lives, spiritual lives, and business lives and we should show that this is important to us through honoring the Sabbath at least once a week, but also work to honoring it at some point in every day so that we are always thinking of the Lord and having his presence, grace, and hand with us every step of the way.

  1. This is something Christian entrepreneurs certainly need to account for. It can be easy to become obsessed with the work process and forget the bigger picture and greater mission.

  2. I really enjoyed this article, I think it has a lot of application to todays world. I especially liked when you mentioned “It is a day to show that we are in fact dependent of God and need him in our lives and in our business for strength, guidance, wisdom, patience, etc.” Both a business and our lives equally need God for a success.
